NBA Jock MKT Pick’em – February 8th – Pistons vs Cavaliers

Detroit Pistons vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Donovan Mitchell Under 24.5 Points

This line is way too high for Donovan Mitchell given the current run he is having. Mitchell hasn’t scored above 24 points in his last 8 games and I don’t have faith in him hitting this number against Detroit tonight.

Another reason to fade Mitchell and pick the under is the entire Cavs team is full of able scorers; the entire starting 5 can get buckets at will. Between Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley, there is too much scoring to go around to ensure that Mitchell can get his 25 points to beat the line.

The Cavs last game against the Wizards, Garland, Mitchell, and Allen all finished with 20+ points, not allowing any of them to surpass the 25 point number. In their game before that against the Pacers, none of the Cavs starting 5 were able to hit 25 either.

The safe play is to go under on Donovan Mitchell tonight.

Jarrett Allen Over 15 Points

Jarett Allen is a double-double machine and has gone for 15 points in 4 of his last 5 games with that 5th game scoring 14 points. His point guards feed him down low on a regular basis and he creates a big mismatch in the paint vs. the Pistons.

Allen consistently shoots over 10 Field Goals all from right around the rim, so at 6’9 with a 7’6 wingspan, we’re going to hammer the over 15 points tonight with all of his points coming from dunks, layups, or free throws from getting fouled by the Pistons when they’re not able to guard him one on one down low.

Allen and the over almost seems to good to be true, but we’re going with it.

Isaiah Stewart Over 8 Rebounds

Isaiah Stewart has been on a rebounding tear as of late going for 12, 9, and 16 rebounds in his last 3 games. Stewart is the Pistons primary rebounder and is getting big minutes lately, clocking 31 minutes and 37 respectively in his last two games.

Aside from Jalen Duren who also gets minutes at the Center position for the Pistons, there is virtually no one else on the Pistons who will be a threat to Stewart getting his 8 rebound number tonight.

In their last game against the Celtics, the Pistons starters combined for a whopping 4 rebounds outside of Stewart and Duren. Double hammer the over 8 rebounds for Stewart.
