MORE or LESS: MLB Pick ‘Em Preview

Welcome back to MORE or LESS! The daily Pick ‘Em MLB preview.

With the ‘Dog Days’ of summer baseball coming to a close, playoff teams continue to fight for positioning while the rest just hope the end the season on a positive note.

Check out my analysis of Mookie Betts, Tarik Skubal, Ha-Seong Kim, and Nolan Arenado to get a leg up on today’s MLB props!

Milwaukee Brewers @ Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 ET)

Corbin Burnes (9-6, 3.60) vs. Lance Lynn (9-9, 5.88)

Betts Analysis:

Mookie Betts has only hit his runs prop in 2 of his last 5 games. However, after a 4-run performance last night, the star right-fielder will look to continue his success against the Brewers. Betts has averaged more than a run per game in his career against Milwaukee and matches up well against the right-hander Burnes (.333 BA, .667 SLG). Additionally, Burnes was roughed up for 5 runs in his last start against a very mediocre White Sox offense. Will the Brewers ace bounce back tonight or is it Mookie’s time to shine?

Detroit Tigers @ Cleveland Guardians (7:15 ET)

Tarik Skubal (2-2, 4.18) vs. Xzavion Curry (3-1, 3.39)

Skubal Analysis:

Since returning from injury in July, Tarik Skubal has eclipsed his strikeout prop just 3 times in 7 starts. However, the Tigers rising star has showcased remarkable movement on his pitches and boasts an elite strikeout rate (27.7%) There’s reason to think both these components will be on full display tonight as the Guardians rank 29th in K% vs LHP. Can Skubal finally pick up his first career win against Cleveland?

Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Diego Padres (9:40 ET)

Zac Gallen (12-5, 3.24) vs. Rich Hill (7-12, 5.17)

Kim Analysis:

Despite San Diego’s severely disappointing season, Ha-Seong Kim is carrying this Padres offense. The Team Korea star has 7 multi-base games this month while flexing a 129 OPS+. His WAR of 5.8 (4th best in MLB) demonstrates he’s doing everything he can to propel San Diego into the playoffs. Despite struggling against RHP in 2023, Kim has had relatively decent success against Zac Gallen (Career: .286 BA, .429 SLG). Can he muster up another enough offense tonight to drag the Padres to a win?

New York Mets @ St. Louis Cardinals (7:15 ET)

Jose Quintana (0-4, 3.03) vs. Adam Wainwright (3-7, 8.78)

Arenado Analysis:

Nolan Arenado has 11 total bases in his last 5 games but has cashed the over on this prop just twice. We’ll hope for some more consistency from the Cardinals’ third baseman tonight as he gets another crack against an RHP (2023: .294 BA, 183 TB in 113 Games) The Mets have struggled mightily on the mound, allowing over 6 runs per game this month. Can Arenado take advantage of the Mets’ defensive issues tonight?
