MLB Jock MKT Pick ‘Em – April 12th – San Diego Padres at Atlanta Braves

Blake Snell Under 6.5 Strikeouts

Snell lasted just 3.2 innings against Atlanta on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two batters. Control has long been an issue for Snell, and he’s off to a poor start in that regard this season with five walks allowed over his first eight innings. In his first two starts, Snell has also given up seven earned runs, and though his strikeout rate is tantalizing, he’s not going to be able to go very deep into games if he’s unable to gain command over the strike zone.

Snell lasted only 4.1 innings in the season opener against an atrocious Colorado offense and 3.2 over the struggling Braves. Today is not the day to bet the over for Snell facing a monstrous Mets lineup. Take the under for strikeouts for Blake Snell today as it is likely the Mets will send him to the showers early once again today.

Manny Machado Over 1 Total Base

Machado went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs and a stolen base in a 5-4 win over Atlanta on Friday. Machado has hit pretty well so far this season, batting .310 through 32 plate appearances. However, the all-star is turning up the heat as of late, raising his 2023 batting average from .271 to .286 in just 4 games last week.

What makes Machado particularly appealing against the Mets today is his ability to drive the ball against lefties. The infield superstar is batting .389 against lefties this year so is primed to take advantage of a matchup against lefty Tylor Megill today.

T Nido Under 0.5 hits

Nido, who was called up from the Cactus League just four days ago, is still finding his footing at the plate. With the Mets choosing to sit their everyday starting catcher Alvarez today, Nido will get the at catcher. But don’t expect him to light up the scoreboard. With a batting average of just .150, he’s struggled to make an impact in the big leagues. And with his reputation as a defensive-minded catcher, it’s no surprise that he’s struggled to produce offensively.

So, if you’re looking for a player prop bet that could pay off big, consider betting the under on Nido’s hits today. With his limited experience, struggles at the plate and high strikeout ratio, a matchup against a high-volume strikeout pitcher like Blake Snell does not bode well for the young catcher. Nido has 6 strikeouts in his last 20 at bats without any walks, so don’t expect him to expose any of Snell’s weaknesses today.
